What are you grateful for?
It's been a couple of weeks since I last blogged as I spent a week earlier this month in the very interesting nation of Haiti, in the Caribbean. I was there to run a Supervisory Skills training program for some of the United Nations personnel. It was an incredible, rejuvinating experience and Haiti is a fascinating country in the midst of many positive changes. As someone who lived and worked in the Caribbean for a decade, in many ways it was like "coming home" even though I had never visited Haiti before.
One question that kept popping into my mind during my work in Haiti was "What am I grateful for?". This question was precipitated in part due to the feeling when I travel of greater space and opportuity for expansive thinking. I often seem to be more in touch with my basic instincts when I leave everyday trappings behind.
Some of the thoughts that came to mind when I thought of what I am grateful for included: running my own business and being able to take on work that challenges me, makes a positive impact in the world, and is aligned with my values and purpose. I also was very aware of my gratitude for being a mother, and knowing that my son was well taken care of while I was away by his father and grandparents. One of the biggest things I was grateful for is my ability to play "big" and really make an impact on issues at the global level. I do hope that work will take me back to Haiti again soon.
So my challenge to you today is to ask you to stop and take a moment to take stock of what you are grateful for? What are the most important things for you right now?
